1. Cisco announces Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Router EA6500 powered by 802.11ac technology – Cisco has announced the availability of Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Router EA6500 that is powered by the latest wireless technology – 802.11ac. This new access point can support speeds of up to 1300 Mbps (as per their spec sheet), has six internal antennas and can support both 2.4 GHz (to connect to legacy networks) and 5 Ghz (for 802.11ac). Laptops and tablets are yet to get the 802.11ac adapter and they are expected by the end of this year. Read more…

2. Google announces Google Compute Engine to create massive VM clusters on the cloud –  Google Compute Engine, is an Infrastructure-as-a-service product that enables customers to create and run Linux-based Virtual Machines using the Google cloud infrastructure. Among other things, it is possible to launch large compute clusters consisting of thousands of cores, launch multi-core Linux VM’s On-demand and create compute clusters out of them. Read more…

Symantec and Redhat announce joint enterprise data-center solutions – Symantec and Redhat Linux have announced joint enterprise data-center solutions to provide automated off-premise disaster recovery, cost-effective failover for Oracle databases, storage management for multi-OS/multi-storage systems, among others. 4. Will Lighting and IT Converge? – It seems Cisco & partners have demonstrated LED lights that can be controlled over IP at the Cisco EnergyWise pavilion at Cisco Live, San Diego.
