3 Phones with 8K Video Recording in 2020
Are you still recording 4K videos on your mobile phone? You are so in 2019!
In 2020, 8K Video Recording is going to be the norm. Well, at least on the flagship phones of certain manufacturers.
Here are 3 phones that will support 8K video recording in the first half of 2020 – Samsung Galaxy S20, LG V60 ThinQ & Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro.
Are you wondering why your favorite iPhone is not here? You may have to wait for a couple of years for iOS to catch up lol… 🙂
Just how many pixels are we recording with 8K? 7,680×4,320
That’s a big number. So we need large cameras with processors that support 8K video. Snapdragon & Samsung are already manufacturing these.
Pros of 8K Video Recording
- Video recorded in the 8K format will look great in larger 4K & 8K displays. It will look better than Full HD videos even in 1080p displays.
- It’s possible to extract larger resolution photos from 8K videos – useful for printing in bigger sizes.
- You can zoom into 8K videos without losing details if you view them in 4K, 1080p or lower displays.
- You can crop smaller portions of the 8K video and view it in full resolution on HD screens.
- Even DSLR cameras don’t record 8K videos (yet) – your phone wud finally have bragging rights over those large cameras.
Cons of 8K Video Recording
- 8K Videos occupy a large amount of space – 600 MB for every minute of recorded video.
- 8K video recording is processor intensive – phones will get heated up and perhaps even hang if used in this mode for a longer time.
- Although 8K means more resolution, larger cameras have larger sensors which are capable of recording more details even in 4K. Phones don’t have enough space to pack large sensors.
- 8K video recording may be capped at 24fps. So it’s difficult to record good quality slow-motion and high-speed videos which need to be recorded at a larger frame rate, in 8K.
- 8K is initially expected to be available only on Flagship phones all of which would be very expensive.
Should you or should you not buy a phone with 8K video recording?
Yes, of course, you should. Especially if you are an early adopter of technology and would love to brag about your latest high tech acquisitions.
However, if you could wait for some time, 8K will be available on lower models as well – just like how 4K video recording is now available in inexpensive phones. Besides, all those initial glitches with 8K would have been fixed by then 🙂
