Avoid Long Powerpoint Presentations: What to do instead?

However hard it may seem, it’s important to make your most convincing points during the first three minutes of a presentation. Because only then people are at their attentive best.

Taking that insight one step ahead, why not make your ENTIRE presentation/pitch WITHIN THREE MINUTES?

Are you wondering how or why you’ll need to condense your 20 or 30-minute pitch to three minutes? Is that even possible?

The 3-minute rule: Book Review

Yes, you can (and should) says the author of,

The 3-Minute Rule: Say Less to Get More from Any Pitch or Presentation by Brant Pinvidic.

The author has rich experience pitching his multi-million dollar TV show concepts to network producers in the US.

In fact, he got the insight (which eventually led to this methodology) during the preparation of a particularly long pitch – with which his team was struggling for weeks together. Whatever they did, they were not able to make it convincing enough.

Then it struck him.

He calls the head of the network and requests for a five-minute appointment (although the pitch is far from ready) but manages to convince him on the spot – within just four minutes.

Thereupon, he made all his presentations/pitches within three minutes with great results, which is what he elaborates in this book.

The reason I read this book was entirely different – I wanted an effective methodology to create convincing explainer video scripts. I have read a lot of material on this subject but nothing was good enough.

So I decided to get inspiration from outside my industry, and that’s how I found this book!

Sure enough, I will try to make my videos are longer (From around one minute to three minutes) and follow the author’s WHAC methodology.

The author gives away his entire method along with examples that make it easy to remember.

Just don’t forget to take notes. I did that during my third reading of this book!
