Domain Email & Cloud Storage for Families? (Zillum by Zoho)
Would you like a custom/own domain email, cloud storage, and private collaboration channels [chat, calls, etc.] exclusively for your family members? Zillum from Zoho is the product targeted at families, just for that.
Their economically-priced package includes, at the time of writing this article, 25 GB custom-domain email inbox for 3, 5, or 10 family members. Cloud storage starts from 500 GB (combined) for the basic plan. You can buy and connect your own domain name or use their subdomain – for free.
In addition, they also include social media style communication apps, productivity apps, audio and video calling facilities, calendars, etc. For more features, visit the link at the beginning of this article.
But would families want a custom-domain email and personal cloud storage?
Well, if privacy, storage limitations, and advertising issues with the current free service providers concern you, then maybe yes.
If you want your family to have its own domain name for the luxury and uniqueness it offers – at least currently, then maybe yes.
If you want additional storage to save and share your pictures and videos securely on the cloud, then maybe yes.
If you don’t like the advertising and data sharing policies of the current social networks, then maybe yes.
If you have a small family-based business and would like to have domain email and collaboration for all members within a single ecosystem, then maybe yes.
But what are the competing options?
Other options for custom-domain email and cloud storage include Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, Rediffmail Pro, etc. Most shared, cloud, or dedicated hosting accounts for hosting websites come bundled with custom domain email, as well.
However none of the above (as far as I know) is tailored towards families. Almost all of them are targeted towards businesses, but of course, nothing stops you from using it for families either.
Without a custom domain, we have many popular free options like Gmail, Microsoft Outlook, iCloud mail, etc.
My Thoughts
Although this offering feels like a rebranding of Zoho’s existing similar offerings for businesses, there will be a future when families and family-run businesses would want to have their own custom domains. Once initial traction is established, peer pressure will drive most people to have their own domain email and storage.
The question is, do you want to be an early adopter or not. Only you can answer that for your family.
